Bali, an island that is covered by evergreen rice terrains with naturally carved waterfalls. Something spectacular that can only leave you with one feeling: blissful.
Now, Bali is so popular all over the world, that lakhs of people visit Bali for reasons like its spectacular beauty, to find romance and self-love. I think when Julia Roberts visited Bali in the movie ‘Eat.Pray.Love’, she planted an image of Bali with temples, palm readers, and her journey of self-discovery. She rides her bicycle in the trails of lush green rice fields, wind passing through her hair, and while she discovers her inner peace, your excursion to Bali will be nothing less.
What to expect
To be honest, I aspire to be a slow traveler, and Bali is one of the islands that fits in my journal.
Bali has its one-of-a-kind scenic beauty. All four directions of Bali have different vibes. The Northern and Eastern Bali welcomes you with streaming waterfalls and adventures in rice terrains and is a little closer to nature. You would enjoy scooty rides along narrow streets covered with green patches on both sides of the road, along with black Lava stone temples.
The Western side of Bali has dramatic sunsets and famous temples on cliffs splashing with water, which just makes everything a perfect capture. This side of Bali also hosts the party culture.
That leaves us with Southern Bali. Southern Bali encloses the Nusa Islands and Gili Islands, known for their spectacular coastline, majestic rocks, and turquoise blue waters. In addition, the perfect spots for surfing await you on this side, just relaxing and ending your trip.
Weather
Bali has good weather most of the year except for a few months. The best months to explore this beauty are the dry ones, from April to October. This time is best for surfing and enjoying beaches. The rainy season that spreads from November to March has occasional rains and is a good time to cherish lush beauty and good warm sun.
Now, I always recommend avoiding peak seasons, as although the temperature is the best, the influx is just too high. It spoils the mood and nobody likes to be in long waiting queues. You can plan in the mixed seasons like December or April when the weather will not disappoint and is manageable.
People and culture of Bali
Balinese people are full of warmth and have smiling faces all the time. Bali’s culture has its deep roots in traditional dance, poetry, and arts and crafts. The souvenirs from Bali are some of my most beautiful collectibles. Balinese and Javanese are the commonly spoken languages but have taken inspiration from Sanskrit words.
Bali is the only archipelago that has Hinduism as the dominant religion. Over the years, there have been waves of capture and invasion by the Chinese, Japanese, Dutch, and Muslims, and in the end, it became a refugee for Hindus. And that is reflected in their architecture.
Safety advice and Travel tips
Bali is generally safe to travel to. But, you should always take cautions while traveling in the outskirts. Personally, I did not face any issues during my visit, but rare incidents of scams have surfaced from time to time. Overall, the warm hospitality of Bali can make your trip worry-free!
Since Bali roads are narrow, traveling during peak times sometimes becomes a concern due to heavy traffic that blocks the road and spoils the mood. Thus, whenever you are traveling to Bali, double-check the month and avoid peak seasons at all times.
